September 2008. Progressive Educational Systems entered into a pilot program with the Department of Education in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2007. The Dept of Ed is presently undergoing a dramatic overhaul of their provincial curriculum for technology education. As part of this overhaul the dept of Ed is adding a Power and Energy section which includes small engines and renewable energy sources. The Dept of Ed. was specifically looking for a Renewable Energy training system that uses real world components instead of a small table top solution. They decided on the 07-WSEM-400 from Progressive Educational Systems for just this reason. Real world components that are being used in the residential renewable energy industry! These are the same components that students would see in their own homes or cottages. The other attractions included the self-paced curriculum, troubleshooting exercises, installing procedures and system design!
After a year in the pilot program the Department of Education purchased 30 of these systems as part of their progressive direction to a provincial solution where all schools are equipped with the most current technology training available.
Robotics News! As part of the Newfoundland and Labrador’s Dept. of Education’s direction, they have also recently purchased 62 robotics kits to help engage their schools in the area of robotics. These kits provide the basic equipment required to design and build their own robot to compete in both the MATE ROV underwater robot competition and the Skills Canada robotics competition. Progressive Educational systems were awarded this contract as a sole source provider of such robotic kits in North America.
